Vacation and Birding at Hilton Head and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. 5/21/2023

Jose and I took a road trip down to Florida to see Mom and Peter with a stopover at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. Of course I had to do some birding in both places and was hoping to see a Black Skimmer, Painted Bunting, Black-necked Stilt, and Yellow-crowned Night Heron. I saw all of the birds on my wish list and so many more including so many nesting heron! From Hilton Head were Black Skimmer, Clapper Rail, Black-bellied Plover,

Young Green Heron, Least Bittern, Adult Green Heron, Ruddy Turnstone, Painted Bunting, and Yellow-crowned Heron.

From Florida were Black-necked Stilt, Great Egret, Gopher Tortoise, and Glossy Ibis.
