Great Horned Owlets. 4/02/2024.

It is that time of year when Great Horned Owlets are beginning to branch and fledge from their nest under the watchful eyes of the Mom and Dad. Great Horned Owls are also known as the "Tiger Owl" as they are an apex predator and will hunt prey that is even larger than themselves including other owls. In my area of Massachusetts, Great Horned are among the first to nest, and they begin establishing their territory as early as December. I have been following three different nests this year, and the pictures shown are from two different areas with differing ages of owlets.
