The popular Bald Eagle pair are back to nesting on Watercourse Road and photographers are again being unethical and stationing themselves in front of the nest with tripods. Sigh...I have been avoiding the nesting pairs in the immediate Boston area after the death of MK at Mt. Pleasant. Rodenticides are such an issue in city areas for Eagles and Owls and, hopefully, MK's death will not be in vain as she brings more awareness that we need a solution.
I am also following two more Bald Eagle pairs that are closer to me in Bristol county and both are more rural so rodenticides should not be much of an issue. The first pair has been consistently at Lake Massapoag, and I have seen them flying around the lake along with an immature Eagle. I have yet to find their nest!
The second pair is in Wrentham and is in a very vulnerable spot. Unfortunately, more and more people know about it so I may have to call MA Audubon or DCR again similar to last year. I did not realize the female was deep in the nest, likely sitting on eggs based on her behavior. I backed off, took a more distant picture, but will have to find a vantage point even further away so as not to disturb anything. I was impressed at how well my camera and lens were able to focus on the eye, even through the branches.
