American Avocet Again! 7/30/2022

I couldn't resist visiting Parker River NWR again this Saturday for another glimpse of the rare (for this area anyway), recurring American Avocet at Stage Pool. I was able to get better pictures because this female was so cooperative!

My primary reason, though, for the visit was to try and see a Yellow-Crowned Night Heron at North Pool overlook. This bird has evaded my camera thus far as I keep missing seeing one before it leaves for its daytime roosting area. I was at North Pool overlook by 7:00 am and did see Black-Crowned Night Heron- both adults and juveniles. Three other birders with amazing spotting scopes joined me at the overlook and showed me an adult Yellow-Crowned Night Heron with its head just poking out of a very far distant tree. Too far for a photo, but a lifer, and I was happy! There are so few of them in MA.
