I made the journey on Sunday (not going through the Boston traffic during the week!) to Winthrop Beach in hopes of seeing any Night Heron, YCNH or BCNH, as well as the unique Monk Parrots. More about the latter in the next post. I wasn't able to see any YCNH at the nearby park, although an immature was reported and I saw a report in ebird the next day. I did see a mature BCNH that was hiding high up in a Maple tree as well as an immature BCNH at the south end of the park pond. I then headed back home and stopped at a local small pond next to Wollaston Beach. I often walk along Wollaston Beach during Plover time as well as to just relax, and have been visiting the pond since a White Ibis had recently been spotted there. To my surprise, there were 3 adult and 4 juvenile BCNH as well as an egret and a Broad Tailed Hawk hiding in a tree. Just goes to show that you don't always have to travel far from your own home to see the best stuff!
