A beautiful Red Fox vixen and her five sassy pups. 3/24/2024.

What a pleasure to watch this beautiful mother fox take care of her litter by nursing, providing food (a rabbit and a squirrel although Dad may have helped), and playing with her five pups. A friend told me about the location that she chose for her den, and it is right next to a local gym, about two feet from the very busy driveway as people go in and out on foot and in their cars. Fox often locate their dens in people-centric areas to lessen the chance that they will become prey to coyote or other predators. This family seemed very comfortable with onlookers in their cars as well as myself as a photographer as long as I stayed on the street. Everyone seemed very healthy, and Mom seemed to be quite young as evidenced by her very shiny, white teeth! The pups were incredibly active, and Mom kept a careful eye on everything. The pictures say it all!
